What If We’re All Just God?

BY SOFO ARCHON

God - Alex Grey

This is the transcript of a spontaneous talk.

What if we are all just God?

People tend to think of God as a being that is external to this world, and fundamentally separate from it. But mystics down the ages have assigned a very different meaning to the word God.

They have said that God is life itself. God is the life source that gives birth to and unites all beings. God is this very world, this very existence in all of its manifestations, one of which is we humans.

We might be just a part of God, and we might not understand God. We might not be able to fully understand the intelligence and complexity of this world, but we are part of it. We are part of the web of life, and in a sense, we are God.

Imagine what would happen if we saw each other as God, if we saw the world as God. Would we hurt each other? Would we abuse each other? Would we fight against each other? Would we commit violence or make wars?

No. Because doing so would be as if we were hurting ourselves. We would see each other as an extension of ourselves, as an extension of our bodies, and we would not want to harm other people. We would also see them as sacred, and so we would treat them with love and reverence.

And the same thing we would do with Earth We would not destroy forests, we would not poison the sea, the land, or the air. We would not mass exploit, abuse, and murder tens of billions of land animals, or trillions of marine animals. We would treat Earth with utter respect, and we would want to serve and protect and take care of her.

If we could collectively see existence as God, we would live in heaven.
