Lately, everyone seems to be talking about Liver King.
Why? Because he was exposed for lying to his millions of followers about not using steroids.
But there is something nobody seems to notice… and this changes everything.
Brian Johnson, better-known as Liver King, is an organ-devouring “masculinity” influencer who promoted what he called an “ancestral” lifestyle consisting of nine “tenets”, one of them being a diet of “primal fare”, including animal lungs and testicles.
Not a long time ago, no one knew about Liver King, and apparently, he was not okay with that. He wanted fame, and to achieve that he had an ingenious idea:
Making shirtless videos of himself eating raw meat.
And it worked extremely well. In just a year, Liver King rose dramatically in popularity, building a social media following of millions of people.
But he didn’t just want fame, he also wanted money. And a lot of it.
Although it seems that he already had quite a successful business before becoming famous, his business rose to new heights in recent months. By selling his own supplements, containing beef organs, fish eggs, bone marrow, and other animal products, he was able to amass insane amounts of money in a very short period of time.
The main reason why so many people bought those supplements was clearly Liver King’s impressive physique, which he claimed to have attained completely naturally.
Accusations about steroid use were made again and again by many popular figures in the fitness industry. But he categorically denied them all. Until… he was finally exposed for being a fraud.
Over the last week, evidence came to the surface revealing that Liver King has indeed been using performance-enhancing drugs, which he was eventually forced to admit. And nearly every fitness influencer started to freak out, condemning Liver King for his immoral behavior.
And I get it. He lied, manipulated and exploited so many people, and that’s clearly something to be condemned. But there is something no one in the fitness industry seems to address:
That even if Liver King didn’t lie about his steroid use, or didn’t use steroids at all, his message would still not be okay. — at least, when it comes to nutrition.
You see, most of those fitness influencers who accuse Liver King say little to nothing against the kind of diet he is promoting to his audience:
Meat, meat, meat.
Meat that is coming from animals that were abused and killed. Meat that is poisoning our bodies. Meat that is literally killing our planet. Facts that have been substantiated by decades of research.
But I don’t see any fitness influencer infuriated about that! And the reason is clear:
Because most of them talk highly of meat consumption too, and in fact earn a living by doing so, through the selling of books, courses and supplements to their audience. Not realizing the misinformation and the unhealthy eating behavior they promote!
Now, I’m not saying that they should not expose and be angry about the lies Liver King spread. But there is an elephant in the room here, and I felt someone needed to talk about it as well.
So, this article is not really about Liver King and his lies. It’s about a bigger truth that is staring us in the eye, and the lies we tell ourselves to avoid facing it.
