I used to find myself getting distracted when I worked on my online certificate program at local cafés, coffee shops and bookshops. While some people enjoy the background noise, I found the incessant sounds of other customers and sales people to be highly distracting.
I gradually began to limit my studying to libraries and my home office, and began quickly reaping benefits both in terms of saving time and in the quality of my work. Here are five of the main advantages I found while studying in a distraction free environment:
It Helps You Concentrate
Whenever I studied in a noisy environment, I often found myself listening to other people’s conversations or letting my mind wander off. This did little to help me focus on my studying. As soon as I started studying in a distraction free zone, I found I was able to concentrate so much more which in turn made studying much less stressful and arduous.
It Saves You Time
When you are able to concentrate on something, you usually can learn the information more quickly and effectively. I noticed that when I studied in a quiet place, I was able to get my studies over with so much more quickly. This really helped free up time that I could then dedicate to practicing my hobbies and hang out with my friends, both of which I much prefer to studying!
It Can Save You Money
This may sound surprising, but being able to complete your studies with higher levels of concentration and in less time can actually save you money. If you are able to focus on your studies more thoroughly, you will less likely need to hire a tutor or have to repeat a course. In addition, if you are able to reduce your hours needed to study through a distraction free environment, you won’t need to cut back on your hours at work in order to succeed academically.
You Can Retain More Information
The more focused you are while studying, the more likely you are able to retain information. So reducing distractions in the study environment can help you remember more of the stuff you have just learned. This can make acing exams much easier and help you remember invaluable information even years down the line.
You Will Produce Higher Quality Work
The ability to shut off all exterior distractions while studying in a quiet zone can help you produce substantially higher quality work. This is because you will be able to focus entirely on the work at hand, and as a result give it your all. I saw a dramatic increase in my grades when I started to study in distraction free environments, and I’m sure you will experience the same.
Studying in a reduced destruction zone can really help you achieve your academic goals more easily and within less time. Try to choose somewhere you know is super quiet and where you are unlikely to be disturbed. Avoid other distractions by turning your phone off and avoid browsing the web as you study. Good luck!
