Building a World Beyond Greed and War

Building a World Beyond Greed and War

People are constantly fighting among themselves. They fight over whose God is the greatest, whose political leader is strongest, or whose nation is supreme.

Every few years, these conflicts erupt into wars that kill millions of men, women, and children—all so a tiny group can expand their geopolitical power and amass financial wealth.

Speaking of wealth, the richest person in the world today earns more than $215 million a day, while the median annual household income is only about $10,000. Meanwhile, the world’s richest 1% hold more than double the combined wealth of 6.9 billion people.

Yet most people don’t seem to care. They’ve grown so accustomed to this state of affairs that they fail to see how profoundly sick our culture is—much like fish don’t realize they are swimming in water. Things appear normal, as they should. But what if we could live differently? What if we could live free of war and needless conflict?

There is nothing of essence that separates us. We all want to live healthy, fulfilling lives. Regardless of political or economic ideology, nationality, ethnicity, or religion, we all need to give and receive love. So instead of fighting, why not help one another?

Yes, we are all different. I’d be a fool to deny that. But “different” doesn’t mean “better” or “worse”; it just means “unique.” If you think about it, our uniqueness is what adds to the beauty of existence. Imagine if everyone were exactly the same—how boring the world would be!

By embracing our uniqueness, we can celebrate human diversity instead of trying to suppress it. And there’s no need to fight for wealth and resources—the world is abundant, with enough to meet everyone’s needs. But when the few steal from the many, how can there be peace and prosperity? It’s impossible.

Most conflicts are fundamentally money-related. But here’s a truth many of us have been conditioned to ignore: money is an illusion, a story we’ve collectively agreed upon. It has no intrinsic value; it’s just pieces of metal, paper, or bits on computers. And just as we created this story, we can transform it. We can create a story of unity and collaboration—and redesign our economic system to serve all people.

The good news is that we don’t need new technology to achieve this. At their core, our problems are not technical; they are problems of human agreement. So the question is: what kind of world do we want to live in? A world of competition and scarcity, or one of collaboration and abundance? A world of war and fear, or one of peace and love?

The choice is ours.
